‘’ Can spaces of containment be re-conceived as sites of creation and transformation; as incubators of epiphanies, dreams, fears, memories, new relations, new worlds? ‘’

Transition

Amongst the problems Long-term residential care are facing, it is fundamentally a humanitarian problem. Looking at the evolution of a dementia Alzheimer as an example, the loss of autonomy is not linear. On the contrary it can be unpredictable and the decline quite fast (Feddersen, 2014). Moving to an LTRC happens when the needs for care are crucial for the person experiencing dementia and ones relatives are not able to give the proper care needed. It is an important moment for someone that must adapt to new medical and spatial conditions. For the person experiencing it, it means new sensations and emotional fluctuations. A drastic switch from living a moment of joy to completely being lost and frustrated without rationally say why can happened. Being forced to move to an unfamiliar space add on the amount of stress someone can experience. Thus, easing the transition is a mandatory goal.
