In How to study public life, Jan Gehl and
Brigitte Svarre defined important thresholds to consider in order to keep a social relationship with what’s
happening at the ground-level. Compared to existing LTRCs that are generally higher
than 3 levels in Montréal, the system allows us to keep residents with mobility
issues close to the ground. Services normally in the basement are mixed with
the services of the co-op and enable greater relationships between residents, staff
and co-op members. In that sense, people with greater mobility find themselves
higher in the building.
